New Patient Forms  /  Fun & Games

Starting at your child's first birthday, we begin the important first visit by introducing ourselves and the office environment. Usually a cavity detection exam is performed along with a toothbrush cleaning while the child is laying back in their parent's lap. Dietary and home care counseling is also done. For children over three, a thorough examination is performed and any necessary radiographs (x-rays) of the teeth and jaws will be taken. A complete teeth cleaning, flossing and fluoride application will be done at this time. If any treatment is indicated after a careful study of our findings, we will prepare a plan of treatment for your child's dental needs, with an estimation of your costs before any work is begun.

We invite you to stay with your child(ren) during the first cleaning visit. Please permit us and our staff to develop a rapport with your child. Children are often afraid of anything new and/or different and crying is a normal reaction to that fear. Please do not be upset if your child cries. After your child's initial visit to our office, we may ask you to remain in the waiting room while we are working with your child. Though parents are regularly in and out of the treatment area, we find that we can establish a relaxed and friendly relationship more quickly with your child when you are not present. Our main goal is to gain your child's trust and overcome any apprehension they may experience. We offer many treatment alternatives for your child(ren). For apprehensive children, laughing gas or an oral sedation may be utilized to help the child relax and more readily accept

dental treatment. In cases of extensive treatment needs or extreme mental or physical handicapping conditions, treatment may be rendered under an intravenous sedation with a dental anesthesiologist in our office.

We strive to make each and every visit to our office a fun one!
